Qualifications:
  • One year of prior work experience (any industry) AND medical training
  • Clean Backgrounds are required
  • Must have be able to type 25 WPM
  • Must be ok with facility that may or may not perform pregnancy terminations
  • Reproductive, managed/primary health care and/or abortion services experience desirable
  • Medical Assistant certificate/diploma required
  • At least 1 year in a medical office preferred
  • Must be available to work flexible hours which include weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) and evenings
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
 
A large non-profit healthcare organization has a full-time opportunity (4, 10 hour days a week) for an intermediate level Medical Assistant Float in Orange County. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for all supporting functions in the delivery of reproductive health care, primary care, and surgical services. You will assist patients by providing testing, screening, education/counseling, and assisting patients both pre and post-surgical procedure which is required for the provision of medical reproductive health care.

Work alongside providers to ensure high quality, efficient delivery of care. You must have the ability to triage patients, prepare exam rooms, and cover in front office when necessary. Assist providers before, during, and after all medical procedures including surgical abortion services up to 24 weeks. Provide non-judgmental, empathetic care for patients.

Position responsibilities include:
  • Obtain medical history, handle difficult counseling situations with clients on such subjects as rape, STIs, and late abortions
  • Perform basic lab work (Hgb, pregnancy tests, urine dipsticks), process specimens for outside lab tests, record lab results and triage abnormal results
  • Perform MA only patient visits and options/abortion education, making follow-up appointments or referrals for services
  • Assist Doctors during procedure providing assistance for Laminaria and Digoxin administration, analyze products of conception
  • Connect to EKG, B/P, pulse oximeter, transport to recovery room, wiping and cleaning bodily fluids, translate instructions to patient ensuring understanding of post-procedure care
  • Obtain vital signs (blood pressure, height, weight, etc.)
  • Clean and sterilize equipment, prepare and stock exam rooms
  • Emergency contraception visits
  • Prepare charts, verify insurance
  • Monitor health center flow and client satisfaction
  • Prepare center for opening and secure for closing when required
